12 noon to 1 pm: Kevan Frazier: “Asheville and The Roaring 20’s”
We inadvertently left off the time of this program in last week’s blog post, so are putting the word out again.
Kevan Frazier is the author of the recently published book, Legendary Locals of Asheville, 2014 by Arcadia Publishing. The 128-page book features vintage photographs and stories about the legacy of leaders and innovators who helped shape Asheville’s history, including people well-known for their connection to Asheville, as well as the lesser-known.
“The story of Asheville is a great underdog story from start to finish,” said Frazier, an Asheville native and historian. “It was a little town deep in the mountains that would never have grown and never been a success without the people who stumbled on it and the wonderfulness of Western North Carolina.”
Having earned his doctorate in U.S. and African history at West Virginia University, his master’s degree in history from Kent State University and his bachelor’s degree in history from UNC Asheville, one of Kevan Frazier’s many jobs was teaching history at UNC Asheville. As a professor of history, Kevan earned high praise over the years from his students for making history relevant, accessible, and enjoyable through his great storytelling. The North Carolina Room staff always enjoys the chance to talk with Kevan about Asheville and are grateful to Kevan for his work and passion centered on Asheville’s history. We are all lucky to have him to share his knowledge with us.
