WHO WAS GEORGE WELLER?

GEORGE WELLER LIVED IN ASHEVILLE FOR A SHORT TIME BUT HE SEEMED TO KNOW MANY INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE.

THE “CITIZEN JR” BEGAN APPEARING IN THE SUNDAY ASHEVILLE CITIZEN AROUND 1925 AND CONTINUED FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF YEARS.

WELLER MADE HIS HOME AT THE BATTERY PARK HOTEL…AND IT LOOKS LIKE HE KEPT HIMSELF BUSY BY MINGLING WITH MANY OF ASHEVILLE’S RESIDENTS.

IT LOOKS LIKE THE  “CITIZEN JR’S”  SOLE PURPOSE WAS TO HAVE A GOOD LAUGH…DO YOU THINK THE REAL PEOPLE THE CARICATURES WERE BASED ON LAUGHED TOO?

Lyme, this is a wonderful, thought provoking post. I’m sure Hiden Ramsey laughed at his caricature.
Have you ever seen a cartoon by Max Whitson in the local papers? Thomas Wolfe stayed in his cabin in Oteen in 1937.
